This project was installed and commissioned in 2009 as a working demonstration plant to showcase the downdraft biomass gasification technology for rural electrification applications in Malaysia. The downdraft biomass gasifier converts solid woody type biomass or pellets into an energy rich and ultimately clean burning gas called producer gas comprising primarily of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The producer gas goes through a sequence of cooling and scrubbing and fed into a 15kVA producer gas engine generator to produce electric power. This renewable electrical energy is then distributed to an adjoining conference hall and worker’s dormitory to power the lights, wall mounted fans and air conditioning.
